How It Works
The calculator reads today's date with JavaScript's new Date() and extracts the current year. It then constructs the next New Year's target as new Date(year + 1, 0, 1) — always January 1 of the following year, using month index 0. The millisecond difference between that target and now is divided by 86,400,000 and rounded up with Math.ceil so that any partial remaining day counts as a full day. Unlike other holiday countdowns, this one never needs to check whether the target has passed, because January 1 of next year is always in the future.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this always count to January 1st?
Yes. The calculator targets January 1st of the next calendar year regardless of what day you run it. Even on January 1st itself, it counts to the following January 1st.
Is this based on my local time?
Yes. The calculation uses your device's local clock, so the countdown reflects when January 1st arrives in your time zone.
Why does the count differ by one on New Year's Eve vs. New Year's Day?
On December 31st the count is 1, and on January 1st it resets to 365 (or 366 in a leap year) counting to the next year. This is correct — the calculator always looks forward to the next occurrence.
