Pace Calculator

Calculate your running or walking pace per kilometre and per mile from a distance and time.

🧮

Enter your values and click Calculate

How It Works

The calculator first converts your total time from minutes to seconds. It then divides total seconds by your distance in kilometres to get the pace per kilometre. For the per-mile figure, the kilometre distance is converted to miles using the internationally defined factor of 0.621371 km per mile, and the same total seconds are divided by that mile value. Both results are formatted as MM:SS per unit, matching the standard display used by running watches, apps, and race results. Enter any decimal minute value — for example, 65.5 for one hour, five minutes, and thirty seconds. Times for long runs can simply be entered as total minutes: a 2-hour 15-minute run is 135 minutes.

Examples

5 km in 30 minutes
A common beginner 5K time.
Result: 6:00 min/km — 9:39 min/mile.
10 km in 50 minutes
A solid intermediate 10K performance.
Result: 5:00 min/km — 8:03 min/mile.
Half marathon in 2 hours
21.1 km completed in exactly 120 minutes.
Result: 5:41 min/km — 9:09 min/mile.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I enter 1 hour and 5 minutes?
Enter 65 in the time field. For 1 hour, 5 minutes, and 30 seconds, enter 65.5. The calculator accepts any positive decimal minute value, so longer runs are easy to enter.
What is a good running pace?
It depends on your fitness level and race distance. For a 5K, beginners often run 7–9 min/km; intermediate runners target 5–6 min/km; competitive club runners aim for under 4:30 min/km. Marathon pace is typically 30–60 seconds slower per km than 5K pace.
Can I use this for walking pace?
Yes. Simply enter your walking distance and time. Average walking pace is around 12–15 min/km (20–24 min/mile), so this calculator works equally well for tracking walking workouts and hikes.
