How It Works

The calculator divides the total number of pages in the book by the number of pages you plan to read each day, then rounds up to the nearest whole day using a ceiling function. Rounding up ensures you never underestimate your timeline — for example, if you need 13.2 days at your chosen pace, the result shows 14 days rather than 13, because the final partial day still counts as a full day of reading. The weeks estimate divides the ceiling-rounded day count by 7 to give you the broader timeline in weeks, expressed to one decimal place. Both results update instantly as you adjust your reading pace or book length. If you want to finish by a specific date, work backwards: count the days until your deadline and use that as the divisor against the total pages to find the minimum daily page target required.

Examples

Novel at Steady Pace
350-page book, reading 25 pages/day.
Result: 14 days to finish.
Fast Reader
500-page book, reading 50 pages/day.
Result: 10 days to finish.
Light Daily Reading
300-page book, reading 10 pages/day.
Result: 30 days to finish — about 4.3 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an average reading speed?
Most adults read at a pace of roughly 20–50 pages per hour depending on the complexity of the material. Dense academic text or technical content can slow readers to 10–15 pages per hour, while light fiction is often faster.
Can I use this for a reading challenge?
Yes — divide your total challenge pages by the days remaining to find the daily target you need, then enter that directly. The calculator will confirm whether the pace is realistic and show you the exact number of days it will take.
How do I stay consistent with daily reading?
Setting a specific time each day for reading — such as before bed or during a commute — helps build a reliable habit. Tracking your progress with a reading log or streak app adds accountability and keeps motivation high.
